SEO & AI search visibility in Sarasota

We help Sarasota and Manatee businesses get found on Google, in the map results and in AI answers like ChatGPT. The work is a correct Business Profile, a technically clean website and pages that answer what your customers actually search for. We report on it with your own Search Console data.

The numbers on this page come from our own websites, not from an industry survey.

01/ What we measured

What a ranking is really worth

Most SEO pitches lean on click-through figures from years ago. We run websites of our own, so we measured how often searchers actually click at each position.

Google position Clicked Clicks per 1,000 views
1–3 5.64% About 56
4–10 0.64% About 6
11–20 0.04% Less than 1

Older industry benchmarks put position one at 25 to 30 percent. Those figures predate Google's AI Overviews, which now answer many searches at the top of the page. In our data, page two earned about four clicks per 10,000 views. A page-two ranking is not a win, and even the top three get far fewer clicks than most agencies promise.

How long ranking takes

One of our newer sites, on a domain that matches its main search term:

Apr 2026

77

Oct 2026

~9

Google position for that term

  • Almost nothing showed up for the first three weeks
  • Rankings kept improving for three months after paid ads stopped

Real ranking takes months. We plan for that and tell you so at the start.

Build pages that need the click

We also found that when Google can answer a search on the results page, like a definition or a book title, clicks fall to a fraction of normal. Searches that need the page, like a phone number lookup or a quote, get clicked. So we build your pages around questions only you can answer: what you charge, where you work and how to book.

02/ Local rankings

What moves local rankings in Sarasota

In November 2026 we looked at who holds page one for Sarasota business searches. For one search, several page-one results were on domains registered that same year. They got there with a page titled with exactly that phrase and a Google Business Profile, and one profile with zero reviews still made the map's top three. What they had right was the basics.

Your Google Business Profile

01

The map results are built from Business Profiles. We set yours up or clean it up, with the right categories and an accurate service area.

A page for exactly what you do

02

Each service you want to be found for needs its own page, titled the way customers search for it. That's how the new sites we saw reached page one.

The same details everywhere

03

Your business name, phone number and website should read exactly the same on your site, your profile and every listing. We find the ones that don't and fix them.

Directory listings

04

For one Sarasota search we checked, half of page one was directories. A complete, accurate listing on the right ones gives you a second way onto that page.

Reviews from real customers

05

We set up a simple way to ask real customers for reviews, and we never buy them or swap them with other businesses. Rankings aside, the person deciding whether to call you reads them.

Technical basics

06

Real 404s for missing pages, one canonical URL per page, a current sitemap, structured data that tells Google what your business is, and pages that load quickly on a phone.

03/ AI search

Showing up in AI answers

Some customers now ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google's AI Overviews or Bing's Copilot which business to call instead of searching. There's no separate trick for being named. These tools work from what they can read: your website, your Business Profile and the directories that describe you.

So AI-search visibility starts with the same fundamentals as SEO, plus accurate, consistent listings on the directories those tools read. Nobody controls what an AI says, but you can make sure it finds correct information about you.

Run a machine shop or fabrication business? We have a separate page on AI search for manufacturers.

04/ How we work

Five steps, in this order

  1. STEP 01

    Free 30-minute audit

We go through your Google Search Console with you: what you rank for, what gets shown but not clicked, and what's broken.

  2. STEP 02

    Fix the technical problems

Broken pages, duplicate URLs, a missing sitemap or structured data, slow pages. These come first because everything else builds on them.

  3. STEP 03

    Profile and listings

We clean up your Business Profile and make your name, phone and website match on every directory that matters.

  4. STEP 04

    Pages

Pages for the services people actually search for, each answering what a customer needs to know before calling.

  5. STEP 05

    Monthly report

Clicks, impressions and positions from your own Search Console, with a plain note on what we did and what changed.

We work on simple monthly plans or one-time projects. There are no long contracts and no setup fees, and you can cancel anytime. If your website needs rebuilding rather than fixing, see our web design page.

05/ What we won't do

Shortcuts we turn down

Some SEO work gets quick results that don't last, or promises what nobody can deliver. We don't do it.

Buy links

Paid links break Google's spam policies. If they get caught, it's your site that loses rankings, not the seller's.

Fake or swapped reviews

We won't write reviews, buy them or trade them with other businesses. Every review on your profile should come from a real customer.

Hundreds of copy-paste city pages

A common shortcut is a page for every town in the county, with the same text and a different place name. Google treats mass-produced, near-duplicate pages as spam and can penalise the whole site, good pages included. We only publish a page when it has something real to say.

Guarantee a ranking

Nobody controls Google's results, so nobody can honestly guarantee a position. We tell you what we'll do, and you watch the results in your own Search Console.

06/ Questions

Common questions

How long does SEO take?

Months, not weeks. One of our own new sites took six months to climb from position 77 to about 9 for its main search term, and showed almost nothing for the first three weeks. You'll see the progress each month in your own Search Console.

Can you guarantee a first-page ranking?

No. Google decides rankings, so nobody can honestly guarantee one. Each month you'll see what we fixed and published, with your own Search Console data to check the results.

Will this get my business into ChatGPT and Google's AI Overviews?

It gives you the best chance we know of. AI tools work from your website, your Business Profile and the directories that describe you, so we make those correct and consistent. Nobody can control what an AI says about you.

Do I have to sign a long contract?

No. We offer simple monthly plans or one-time projects, with no long contracts and no setup fees. You can cancel anytime.

Are you local to Sarasota?

Yes. Sarasota Consulting was founded by Lennart Lopin and has been based in Sarasota since 2012. We work in person across Sarasota and Manatee counties and remotely with businesses anywhere.

What happens in the free audit?

We spend 30 minutes with you on your Search Console data, your Business Profile and your website. You'll see what you rank for, what's broken and what we'd fix first, and you keep the findings whether or not you hire us.
