ISC2 Security Congress 2026

01

On October 28, 2026, in the Denver area, Lennart presented "Claude Code as Server-Side Security Infrastructure: From Proactive Hardening to Post-Breach Forensics." The session covered using an AI coding agent on Linux servers as active defensive tooling across the security lifecycle.

No Human in the Loop

02

He wrote No Human in the Loop: Cybersecurity in the Autonomous AI Age, now in its second edition. It is the background to the AI security work further down this page.

Byte Federal

03

He co-founded Byte Federal, a Bitcoin ATM and financial services company, in 2016 and is its CTO. He has run its security programs, including ISO 27001 and GLBA work. That ISO 27001 certification belongs to Byte Federal, not to Sarasota Consulting.

Decima Systems

04

He founded Decima Systems, an AI-driven security-validation service: a standing AI adversary that investigates weaknesses an attacker could exploit, verifies each finding with a person reviewing it, helps engineers fix them, then retests.

02/ The rules

The rules that usually bring businesses to us

Security work usually starts because someone asks for it: a regulator, an insurer or a customer. Here is who each rule applies to, what it asks for and what we do about it.

FTC Safeguards Rule

01

GLBA · 16 CFR Part 314

Who it applies to
Non-bank financial institutions, such as auto dealers that finance or lease, mortgage brokers, tax preparers and many CPA firms.
What it asks for
A designated Qualified Individual to oversee your information security program, a written risk assessment, multi-factor authentication, encryption of customer information and a written annual report to your board or owner. Since May 2024, a breach affecting 500 or more consumers must be reported to the FTC within 30 days.
What we do
We can serve as your Qualified Individual or support the person who is. The rule lets that person work for a service provider, but your business keeps the responsibility. We also write the risk assessment and help prepare the annual report.

HIPAA Security Rule

02

HHS

Who it applies to
Covered entities, including medical and dental practices.
What it asks for
An accurate and thorough risk analysis, and managing the risks it finds. HHS has repeatedly settled with practices over a missing or inadequate risk analysis.
What we do
We carry out the risk analysis, write it up, and help you work through the risks it turns up, in order of priority.

CMMC 2.0

03

Department of Defense

Who it applies to
DoD contractors that handle Federal Contract Information (FCI) or Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI).
What it asks for
Level 1 is a self-assessment. Level 2 is based on the 110 requirements in NIST SP 800-171. Since November 2025, DoD contracts can require a Level 1 or Level 2 self-assessment. In July 2026 DoD suspended the next phase, third-party certification that was due in November 2026, while it reviews the program. The NIST SP 800-171 obligations already in your contracts still apply.
What we do
Readiness: a gap assessment, a remediation plan, and your System Security Plan (SSP) and Plan of Action and Milestones (POA&M), so your self-assessment score holds up. When third-party certification is required, it is performed by an authorized C3PAO, not by us.

SOC 2

04

Audited by a CPA firm

Who it applies to
Service businesses whose customers ask for a SOC 2 report.
What it asks for
An audit of your security controls, performed by a CPA firm.
What we do
Readiness: we find the gaps, help close them and get your policies in order before the audit. The audit itself is performed by a CPA firm, not by us.

Florida's 2024 safe harbor

05

Section 768.401, Florida Statutes

Who it applies to
Florida businesses.
What it does
Florida law since 2024 gives a business that substantially complies with a recognized cybersecurity standard, such as NIST, ISO 27001, the CIS Controls, or the HIPAA or GLBA rules that apply to it, a defense against liability in a class action over a cybersecurity incident.
What we do
We help you pick a standard that fits, measure where you stand against it and keep records of the work. Ask your attorney how the law applies to you.

Cyber insurance

06

Applications and renewals

Who it applies to
Any business buying or renewing a cyber insurance policy.
What it asks for
Applications commonly ask about multi-factor authentication, backups, endpoint protection and an incident response plan.
What we do
We help you answer the questionnaire accurately, and put the missing pieces in place before you sign it.

These are plain-English summaries, not legal advice. Your attorney can tell you exactly which rules apply to your business.

03/ Services

Cybersecurity services for small businesses

Take the ones you need. Every engagement is scoped with you before work starts.

Fractional security lead (vCISO)

01

A part-time chief information security officer for a business that doesn't need a full-time one. We set priorities, run the security program and report to the owner or board. We can also serve as, or support, your FTC Safeguards Qualified Individual.

Risk assessments

02

A HIPAA risk analysis, the written risk assessment the FTC Safeguards Rule requires, or a general security risk assessment against the NIST Cybersecurity Framework (CSF).

Compliance readiness

03

CMMC Level 1 and Level 2 readiness, SOC 2 readiness, and written information security programs and policies. We get you ready for the assessor or auditor.

Penetration testing and red teaming

04

Penetration testing of your web applications, APIs and AI agents, as a one-off test or on a schedule up to continuous. Automated red teaming runs on Decima Systems, the AI-driven validation service Lennart founded, with a person verifying every finding. Blue-team hardening and a purple loop close the gaps: find, fix, retest.

AI security

05

Safe AI adoption, an AI acceptable-use policy for your staff, and securing AI agents, including the automation we build.

Incident readiness

06

An incident response plan, a tabletop exercise that walks your team through it, and help with cyber insurance questionnaires.

04/ How it starts

How an engagement starts

  1. STEP 01

    Free 30-minute call

Tell us what started the question: a rule, an insurer, a customer's questionnaire or a worry. We'll tell you plainly whether we can help.

  2. STEP 02

    Scoped assessment

We agree the scope with you before any work starts, then assess where you stand against the rule or standard that applies to you.

  3. STEP 03

    A written plan

What to fix, in order of priority, written so your staff or IT company can work through it.

  4. STEP 04

    Ongoing, as needed

Some businesses want a security lead every month. Others need an assessment once a year. You decide.

We work alongside your IT company, not instead of it. They keep running your systems; we set the security priorities and check that the fixes hold.

05/ AI security

Security for the AI you're adopting

Businesses are putting AI tools in front of staff and customers, and some let AI agents act on their systems. That raises practical questions: what staff may paste into a chatbot, what an agent is allowed to touch, and who checks what it did.

AI security is the subject of Lennart's book, No Human in the Loop, and of his ISC2 Security Congress session on using an AI coding agent as defensive tooling on Linux servers. We apply the same thinking to the AI automation we build for clients.

We can help you with

  • An AI acceptable-use policy your staff can follow
  • Deciding which AI tools may see which data
  • Limiting what AI agents can reach and do
  • Securing the AI automation we build for you

07/ Questions

Common questions

Do you certify businesses as compliant?

No. We prepare you: we assess where you stand, help close the gaps and write the documents. Third-party CMMC certification, when it is required, is performed by an authorized C3PAO, and SOC 2 audits by a CPA firm. We tell you what we found and what's left to do.

Can you be our FTC Safeguards Qualified Individual?

Yes. The rule allows the Qualified Individual to work for a service provider, so we can take the role or support someone on your staff who holds it. Either way, your business keeps responsibility for meeting the rule.

What is a vCISO or fractional CISO?

A part-time chief information security officer. You get someone to set security priorities, run the program and report to the owner or board, without a full-time hire.

Do you replace our IT company?

No. We work alongside them. Your IT company keeps running your systems day to day. We set security priorities, assess, write the plan and retest the fixes.

How much does it cost?

It depends on the scope, so we scope first. Start with the free 30-minute call. We agree the scope with you before any work starts.

How soon can you start an assessment?

After the free call we send you a written scope. Work starts when you approve it, on a date that suits you.

Do you work outside Sarasota?

Yes. We work in person across Sarasota and Manatee counties, and remotely with businesses anywhere.
